Adviser's Corner

In May of this year, we will celebrate our 70th anniversary as an Order of the Arrow Lodge. Since May 20, 1938, the Wa-Hi-Nasa Lodge has provided service to the scouting program in the Middle Tennessee Council and beyond. Through the years, our members have continually provided their time and effort into shaping a Lodge that today is rich in history and provides us with a huge legacy to uphold. The foundation of our legacy is built on strong leadership and a strong commitment to serve. We continue to provide servant leadership locally as well as nationally. Some of last years’ highlights are that our Lodge competed at the Section Conclave and won the Quest for the Golden Arrow. We provided service to the Council through our 2 Ordeals and Winter Camp. Our Winter Camp was attended by 650 campers, staffers, and merit badge counselors. We participated at the National Conservation and Leadership Seminar and drafted our 5 year Strategic Plan. Our crowning jewel was that we achieved Quality Lodge status. As we start this new year, we start again to build upon our past legacy. The officers and chairmen have met during several Lodge Officer Training meetings and set milestones for this years’ programs. This year, like every year, we will face challenges that we must overcome to reach our goals. At the end of the year, if we are successful in attaining our goals, we will add positive history to our continued legacy. Our year has already started as we provided a service corps at the Council Summer Camp kick off event last month. Also, we served at the Climb Nashville event that honored the 600 top popcorn sellers in the Cub Scout program. We are committed to our core programs throughout this year. Currently, our Chapters are busy conducting camp promotions, unit elections, and performing Arrow of Light and Crossover Ceremonies. In March, we will return to (after 5 years away) the Smyrna National Guard facility to conduct our Spring Arrowmen Development Corps program. In April, we will travel to Camp Mack Morris for Section Conclave to defend our Quest for the Golden Arrow trophy. Ordeals will be conducted in May and August. During Summer Camp, OA Cracker Barrels will be provided on Wednesday evenings We will have Fall Fellowship in September, and Winter Banquet and Winter Camp in December. We will send members to participate at several locations this summer at the National ArrowCorps5 event. A new long term program at the new Latimer High Adventure Reservation called ArrowCorps111 will be inaugurated this year too. This program is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our Lodge to assist in developing trails and program areas to enable the new Latimer Reservation to open to Council units later this fall. Every Arrowman has the opportunity to participate and serve throughout the year. It’s a great year to celebrate the 70th year of the Wa-Hi-Nasa Lodge and also to help continue our rich legacy of strong leadership and service to scouting. I look forward to an exciting year.

Yours in Service,
Robert Guisinger
