At the recent Section SR-6 Conclave, Ron Turpin, Section Staff Adviser, announced that Wa-Hi-Nasa’s own Carl Head has been appointed as the new Section Adviser. Carl Head has been an active member of the Lodge throughout his time as a youth and adult. He served as the 1983 Lodge Chief and since then has taken on a number of key advising positions. Carl received the prestigious OA Distinguished Service Award for his service to the Order on the section, regional, and national level in 2002. He has received the District Long Rifle Award, and in 2008, the Silver Beaver. Carl Head finished his second half-marathon recently at the Country Music Marathon in Nashville. Many throughout the council often don’t recognize Carl Head unless he is holding a camera. An avid photographer, he may be seen snapping photos at Scouting events throughout the years. A number of his photographs have appeared on the cover of Jet Trails.
The Flying Eagle had an opportunity to talk with Carl Head about this appointment. FE: How do you hope to help improve the section this year? CH: One thing that we need to do is increase opportunities for the Arrowmen and expand communication to the lodges. I think we can have a much larger Conclave this year with improved program. Another area of improvement is developing other events in our Section. I see the development of Section Committee Teams to improve program. FE: Do you think your past positions in the Lodge and Section will help you this year? CH: Of course. I have seen the section for many years on both sides of the spectrum as an Adviser of various Conclave Committees and a participant for many years. I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t inside and out. FE: Where do you see SR-6 at the end of this year? CH: We are a big section and I know that we can get things done. Like I said, I want a larger Conclave with improving program areas. We need to further develop better Section Assistance Team for the Lodges and program.
