Indian Summer was a great event, it was held on August 1-6 in Ashville, NC. There was a There was a Pow- Wow everyday, and each one had a focus on certain dance style, like grass, fancy, and traditional. The opening gathering was on tuesday night, that featured the legend of the three Lenne Lanape boys, and speeches from National Chief Jonathan Hillis, National Vice Chief, Dan Dick, and National Chairman Ray Capp. Wednessday brought about the Gathering of the Nations, which was big party. It featured a blow up bungee cord run, blow up obsticle course with a slide at the end, put-put, frisbee golf, a guess your speed baseball toss, mini basketball shooting, other carnival games, and free Ice Cream. There was a National Forum on Inductions on thursday, that had a panel that included the region chiefs, the national chief and vice chief, and some members of the national committee. The forum answered questions from arrowmen ranging from unit elections to running an ordeal. Friday brought about the closing gathering, that touched on the history of the Order of the Arrow and the first induction. Arrowmen could take classes on a varety of things related to Native Americans.
There were classes on the different types of dancing and the singing that went with it. One could take classes about the symbolism of the ceremonies, and how to bring out their principle during a ceremony. There were classes that offered individual coaching for ceremonies. Arrowmen could learn how to do the crafts of the Native Americans like lane stitch, gourd and applique, and loom beadworking. As well as fingerweaving and bone work. One could learn how to prepare a feather for a bonnet, and learn the steps on how to make a war bonnet. It was a great event, and fun was had by all that went.

contingent of 6 arrowmen, 3 youth, and 3 adults, Josh Fowler, Zach Rice, Michael Danielson, Terry Luckett, Steve Probst, and TJ Luckett. We had 3 staff members, Matt Brown, who was on the Activities and Recreation staff (ARC), Shawn Barnes who was on the Inductions and ceremonial events staff (ICE), and Craig Salazar. It was like a mini NOAC, with the focus being on Native Americans.
